National Center for Sustainable Transportation Technology (NCSTT) is a CCR based in Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) along with its six university partners consisting of Universitas Sriwijaya, Universitas Diponegoro, Institut Teknologi Kalimantan, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, Universitas Sam Ratulangi, and Massachusets Institute of Technology. NCSTT wiil seek integrated solution for transportation problem, encompassing battery development for electric vehicle, e-trike, electric bus, public transport, and also electric vehicle/rolling stock safety (crashworhiness). Moreover, NCSTT's research will also delve into areas such as infrastructure, transportation policy, transit oriented development, business development for public transport operation, and charging infrastructure in order to support the operation of electric vehicle.
These researches are important because transportation has become a significant problem in areas with high population and long distance travel between settlement area and business district. Battery technology is an alternative energy source which is environmentally friendly. The development of battery technology will contribute to reduce emision generated by transport sector.The development of public transport will creates better trvel for people, less congestion, better accessibility, faster travel time, and improve people productivity.
Researchers of NCSTT will explore infrastructure specification, transit oriented development, public transport business operation scheme, and policy implementation to shift private vehicle to public transport. All of those aspects will create valuable ideas to solve transportation problem in Indonesia and improving quality of live.
NCSTT has formed 8 research cluster between universities partners. By this setting, NCSTT expected to develop strong partnership with all universities partners. MIT will be the mentor for battery development and human resource capacity building. The results of our research will also be disseminated by various means such as academic publications, prototype development, focus group discussion, and collaboration with transportation industries.
