Developing Method to Achieve nZEB Model for Buildings in Yogyakarta and Bandung

In High Performance Building principles, there are 2 important factors that are in line with sustainable design concept, which are energy usage and indoor environmental quality. Those factors also becoming the main aspects on nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) design. This relation occurs due to the fact that those factors triggered a hypotheses on the need of high energy consumption to improve an Indoor Environmental Quality.

To achieve nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) concepts, there are energy supply side and energy demand side that define the energy supply and usage. Researches in INSGREEB have been focusing  on the energy demand side. It means that the researches’ approach is ‘how to reduce energy usage based on nZEB methodology?’.

The concept of nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) consists of several principles. INSGREEB focuses on three methods to achieve nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB). Those methods are defining requirements of nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) design, developing active method to achieve nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB), and developing passive method to achieve nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB).  

Defining requirements of nZEB is aimed to find out the minimum energy consumption along with indoor thermal comfort. This step also includes how to monitor IEQ parameters, monitor energy usage, and develop assessment tools for thermal comfort characterization. After the model has been developed from the requirements, the nZEB concepts can be achieved by active methods and passive methods. Active methods aims to design the control system (i.e. controller algorithm) that obtains a thermal comfort condition of a room with the minimum and efficient energy usage. In addition, passive methods aim to design passive building system that can minimize indoor thermal loads in the attempt to achieve indoor comfort.
